This is my report on my activities related to the Mozilla Foundation for the week ending May 11, 2007.
Projects for the week
Here’s a partial listing of what I and others did this past week:
Grants and related activities. I worked on paperwork for a grant proposal originally submitted for Summer of Code. Charles Chen and Peter Theissen presented a paper “Ajax Live Regions: Chat as a Case Example” at the recent W4A conference featuring work funded by the Mozilla Foundation.
Next action(s): Finish paperwork on two other grant proposals resulting from the Summer of Code submissions for which we didn’t have slots. Do a blog post summarizing our accessibility-related efforts, as well as a brief meeting report on CSUN and G3ICT.
IP/legal issues. Not much new since last week.
Next action(s): Work more to get the contributors agreement moved forward.
Other. I worked with Zak and Gerv to try to resolve various open governance bugs.
Next action(s): As needed.
See also the blogs by Gerv and Zak for their own status reports.
Upcoming activities
- I’ll be in Atlanta on July 2 to speak at the annual meeting of the National Federation of the Blind in Computer Science.
- I’m considering attending at least part of OSCON 2007 July 23–27.
- I’ll tentatively be in Boston on July 30–31.
Random notes
Moving from one house to another makes one aware of both how much stuff one has and the difficulty of tracking where it’s all supposed to go and finding it once you’ve put it there. A classic text on the first point is Peter Menzel’s Material World: A Global Family Portrait; for more on the latter point in a digital context see David Weinberger’s Everything is Miscellaneous: The Power of the New Digital Disorder (which I’m just starting to read).
