Appendix 1: Character Index
This index is for readers trying to keep track of the characters in Sweet Blue Flowers, many of whom are unnamed or not given full names upon their first appearance in the manga. It lists characters under both their given names and family names where known, and where appropriate also by their roles in relation to other characters (e.g., “Yasuko’s mother”).1
The index lists pages on which a particular character is depicted or (for minor characters) mentioned, omitting incidental appearances by major characters.2 The index also lists significant events in the characters’ lives, for example, for readers wishing to consult the parts of the manga dealing with Fumi’s relationship with Yasuko. Events are listed in chronological order (as best I can determine such order) rather than by their location in the manga.
Characters with names in boldface are those included in the profiles at the beginnings of the original Japanese volumes. Page numbers in italics refer to depictions of characters on cover pages, tables of contents, or chapter title pages, or in character profiles or afterwords.
